Passionate About Occupational Therapy
I am Raeesa Essop, a mum of 3 and occupational therapist. I am registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and HCPC (UK – Health Care Professions Council).
I qualified with a BSc Occupational Therapy from WITS University in 2010 and completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation from the University of Pretoria in 2014. Over the years I have worked in both the public and private health sector, gaining experience in adult physical rehabilitation, paediatric developmental delay and attention disorders, medico-legal assessments, functional capacity evaluations, case management, vocational rehabilitation and hand therapy.
My passion for learning is ongoing and over the years I have developed a special interest in pain management. Thus, in 2023 I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Pain Management via the University of Cape Town.
Additional Training
I am passionate about my profession as an occupational therapist. I served as the co-chairperson of the Southern Gauteng branch of OTASA (Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa) from 2020–2025. I served on the board of INSTOPP (Institute for Occupational Therapists in Private Practice) from 2017–2022. Since 2025 I am the chairperson of the Occupational Therapy Pain Management Group (OTPMG).
Over the past 15 years, I have grown and developed my passion for return to work, assisting with reintegration into the workplace after an illness or injury and taking on a preventative approach through workplace wellness, identification of risk factors, both physical and mental health risk factors in the workplace and chronic pain management.

Ergonomics
The way we sit, stand, reach and work influences our health in the long term. Ergonomic assessments are key to identifying risks for repetitive strain injuries or injuries on duty. R E Occupational Therapy works with OH&S Teams to support, identify and mitigate physical and mental health risks in the workplace.
Pain Management
Pain is often misunderstood by those without it and carried as a heavy burden by those who have it. Persistent pain influences all tasks and all personalities.
Hand Therapy
Hand function forms a crucial part of our existence. Repetitive strain injuries of the upper limb are increasing, especially in jobs which require use of tools, writing and typing for most of the work day. R E Occupational Therapy works with both acute and chronic hand injuries.
